This month is a special new moon, so I will step back and let the experts speak. Peace, love, blessings, Helen

Moon Messages
So we have a second New Moon in Virgo this year. This is a special New Moon in Virgo for several reasons: it occurs at 29º, the Moon and Sun are conjunct the South Node in Virgo, in a T-Square with the North Node in Pisces and Pluto in Sagittarius, and all this occurs during a solar eclipse.

This will be an annular solar eclipse, where a narrow ring of the Sun is visible around the dark moon. This eclipse will be visible throughout South America and western Africa. For more information on the eclipse go visit NASA's eclipse web site: NASA

Eclipses are especially sensitive when they conjunct the Nodal Axis because they enliven the collective memory of past deeds and the future evolutionary trends of our species. This solar eclipse represents the energy of the Virgo Sun being hidden from view by the Virgo Moon. So the readily apparent qualities of Virgo become subsumed by the unconscious properties and propensities of the constellation. It is easy to consider the dark side of Virgoan qualities like perfectionism and idealism; I know my inner critical tyrant quite well. Maybe you know yours as well!

What is not so easy is to imagine the dark side of the desire to serve and/or heal. This New Moon in Virgo at 29º, is asking each of us to look deeply at our own inner agendas, with a critical eye toward whether we do this work to get our own emotional and egoic needs met? Do you empower or dis-empower the people you help? Consider how much you walk your talk? Do you teach others to live better, healthier lives and still find yourself unable to change your own physical, emotional and mental condition? With the T-square to Pluto and the North Node, and Uranus in Pisces, the call to let go of self-gratification is quite big on this New Moon.

We also have a T-square with Saturn in Leo opposing Neptune in Aquarius and both squaring Jupiter in Scorpio. This is a T-square about the nature of power and the need to tell the truth. It has been with us since August 24 and will continue to be in effect through the beginning of November.

So what about each of us? What inner untruths can be brought to light on this New Moon? Look at your body, your mind, your heart: where is your pain? How much compassion and love are you willing to bring to bear upon that pain? How much can you extend that compassion and love out to the ones you most care about and then to the ones you least care for?

I feel an intensity building in the world and know that the only real defense against hatred and violence is basic human kindness and affection. I will end with a small section of the transcription I made of the HH Dalai Lama's lecture in Vancouver on September 8.

"From birth to death human affection is the main thing for a happy life. Compassion, forgiveness, lovingkindness; some people think this is a religious thing. These things are not exclusive to religion. Basic human good qualities are separate from religion.

Now today, our world, at the beginning of the 21st century. Look back to the 20th century, I think we will remember it as a very important human century. During that period I think humanity carried out a lot of different experiments: political, technological, economic. There were many advances. But the amount of human suffering through war makes it the century of violence. Including terrorism, the violence of Sept 11 doesn't just happen out of nowhere. There are centuries-old grievances involved in these actions, conflicts of ideology even.

Now we have to make an effort to make this century a century of dialogue. Using force against disagreements is out of date. We must talk and respect others as a part of ourselves. Because of high energy use, rising living standards, the whole world is heavily interdependent. The concept of We and They is no longer. The whole world should be an OUR. The concept of war is eliminated when there is no enemy!

With dialogue, just a few words is not sufficient. The way of life should be advanced. Consider others as a brother and sister. Respect them no matter how difficult it is. We can find some way to find a solution: compassion is an important attitude….

Every event is due to many factors. This is very complex because of the nature of interconnectedness; also the nature of the cycle of causes and conditions. Things are not easy. A calm mind is very essential to deal with complex issues and problems. Even positive events—we must have a calm mind to see them clearly. Destructive events we should not want, but it depends upon many factors. In order to overcome that we must overlook many causes and conditions. Too much emotion, even positive ones, is not helpful to analyze precisely complex situations.

In order to develop a calm mind one key factor is a compassionate attitude. We cannot promote human values through policing: Only through reason. I think our educational system must pay more attention to warm-heartedness; in a secular way." HH Dalai Lama, Sept. 9 2006, Vancouver Canada

New Millenium Being
The power and potential of the September 22nd NEW MOON is enhanced by Vernal Equinox on the same day and third Jupiter/Neptune square, exact on September 24th.

The Virgo new moons are a time to review the details and practicalities of our life. Health - how are we taking care of our body? What is the state of our living and working space - what clutter needs to go? How efficient are we in getting things done - do we need to manage our time, energy and resources better? Our evaluation this year takes us to a whole new phase of our lives.

The September 22 new moon is intensified by a solar eclipse just before the moment of the Autumnal Equinox. The shadow of the Moon eclipses the Sun's light. During a solar eclipse the normal flow of solar light or radiation is interrupted, "destabilizing (the) existing configuration of energy and reorganizing consciousness at a higher level. The amplified pull of the Sun and Moon strongly affects the electromagnetic flow in our bodies, altering neutral pathways and trigger points." * (2) We are being realigned at the cellular level so that we can function more in alignment with our soul.

Freeing ourselves from the past and moving on are the major themes for this solar eclipse new moon. New Millenium Being

Full Moon In Pisces, Thursday, September 7, 2006, 2:42 pm EST

FULL MOON in Pisces, 15º 00', Sept. 7, 2006, 2:42pm EST
Partial Lunar Eclipse, 15º 06', 2:51pm EST

Within You, Without You

Summary of sky events this full moon
Vying for your attention on this Full Moon in Pisces is a stellium of planets in Virgo (the healer/mentor)-Venus (love), Sun (personal motivation), Mercury (mind), Mars (action) and the South Node (accrued knowledge)—and on the other side Uranus (the awakener), Moon (intuition), and the North Node (knowledge seeking) in Pisces (the Bodhisattva).(1) We will also be experiencing a partial lunar eclipse, making this a very powerful full moon. Eclipses catalyze our destiny’s deeper calling. Where we find eclipse degrees in the personal birth chart will identify potential release points for this energy (2) depending on the house position where we find Pisces, planets tenanting the house, as well as aspects from Pisces to other planets. Because of the opposition of a large number of planets in Virgo and Pisces, even if you have no planets tenanting the house where Pisces is located in your chart, every one of us is strongly affected by this eclipse.

To access the power and potential of any sign of the zodiac, we must work with the energies and claim the gifts of the opposing sign. (3) If we examine the polarity of energies in Virgo and Pisces for this full moon, we find there is a pull between what we know to be true based on past knowledge/experience and what we have faith is true coming from our intuition, inner knowing, faith in the unknown. We need both kinds of knowing in order to be balanced. Virgo knowing can get lost in the critical details and Pisces knowing can be deceptive in its expansiveness.

Summary Virgo New Moon to Pisces Full Moon; Within you, Without you
The past few weeks we’ve been exploring the Virgo Priestess archetype in our daily lives; owning our energy, containing, directing and focusing it. Her discernment has allowed us to realize the power of choice in every moment. We may have had the experience of knowing we’re choosing for the first time, understanding the power and joy of standing on our own. Many astrology texts talk about the sacrifice inherent in the Virgo archetype; while this may have been true during the Piscean age, the evolved Virgo archetype is no longer victim; she serves from a place of empowerment, rooted in her own energies and process. Because she knows herself so well, she is able to practice impulse control and consider the good of all involved as service. In practicing owning her power, she miraculously sacrifices her attachment to ego, but never herself. She is now ready to bring her focused energy outside of the personal to the transpersonal realm of Pisces.

Pisces represents the oceanic oneness. While Virgo is focused in the Self, Pisces doesn’t differentiate one from the other. It is boundary-less. If there is heavy Pisces or Neptune(Pisces ruler)in the chart, a person will often feel the currents of the collective; there may be a problem discerning what belongs to the self and what belongs to the other. Because the veils are very thin for Pisces, there’s a certain despair and desperation at the more destructive undercurrents in the collective which is often expressed as alcohol or drug abuse, literally a “thirst for Spirit”. The desire to merge with the One, to go back to the comfort of the womb is so strong with Pisces that there's a tendency towards escapism from the physical world. At the same time, there is a very personal understanding of the oceanic oneness and this knowledge brings great faith. The highest octave of water in the zodiac, Pisces is the highest expression of emotion: empathy, loving compassion or Bodhisattva/Christ energy. However, there is a tendency towards self deception with Pisces; since the veils are very thin, which reality do we believe-the dark undercurrents or the bliss of the One-ness? Netpune is very seductive; cloaking his deception in glamour. Evolved Pisces meets evolved Virgo at midpoint: the Virgo Priestess owns her energy, sacrifices her attachment to ego while evolved Pisces brings compassionate understanding of the One to the collective and himself with good boundaries.

My take on this full moon goes something like this: Virgo Priestess has found the power in owning and channeling her energy; in looking steadfastly inward, she loses her ego attachment to self. Her process awakens compassion and deep understanding of the suffering of the collective, and awakens her to the self within the self; in this understanding she meets the One Soul, Atma. The sky events coinciding with this full moon in Pisces support maturation of the knowing process, from empirical to intuitive knowing, balanced at the midpoint, fluid, never staying too long at one pole or the other. Within you, without you. If she goes too far in, she’s called back out to the collective one and if she goes too far out, the details of her personal process bring her back in. This is the personal piece of this full moon energy. I think we’re also being asked to use this understanding to reconcile a serious psychosis of humanity, the mental separation of humanity from nature, to do some serious compassionate mediation on Gaia, Atma. What do you believe about your place in nature? Do you feel you are a cell in the organism of Gaia? If you feel separate from nature, how does this affect your life choices and well being? Do you have faith in the higher knowing of the collective One or do you lose yourself in the critical judgment that happens when you are looking too closely at what you know empirically?

But let’s bring it back in for a moment for the full moon ritual. Personal transformation of belief systems must happen before a collective transformation can happen, so our personal work is the highest act of love and compassion. This full moon ritual we may ask ourselves about our relationship to boundaries and our tendency towards escapism from the difficult undercurrents in the collective we perceive through the veils. We may ask where we allow ourselves to deceive ourselves; where is there weakness for glamour? Jupiter in Scorpio and North Node, Moon and Uranus in Pisces support us to face deep truths about our deceptions with loving compassion. Can you identify a tendency to gravitate towards one polarity or the other (empirical knowing vs intuitive knowing) and does that serve? Is there one belief system that’s begging for readjustment? This is a perfect time to ask for clarity within you.

Peace, love, blessings, Helen

We were talking-about the space between us all
And the people-who hide themselves behind a wall of illusion
Never glimpse the truth-then it's far too late-when they pass away.
We were talking-about the love we all could share-when we find it
To try our best to hold it there-with our love
With our love-we could save the world-if they only knew.
Try to realise it's all within yourself
No-one else can make you change
And to see you're really only very small,
And life flows on within you and without you.
We were talking-about the love that's gone so cold and the people,
Who gain the world and lose their soul-
They don't know-they can't see-are you one of them?
When you've seen beyond yourself-then you may find, peace of mind,
Is waiting there-
And the time will come when you see
we're all one, and life flows on within you and without you.

What's this blog all about?

I was blessed to grow up during the exciting shifts of the 1960’s; even though I wasn’t exactly sure what was changing, I felt myself in natural alignment with the change. What is this shift? It’s a shift in consciousness, a paradigm shift, a shift in world view that is experienced by the collective. Two examples of paradigm shifts that are often used in explanation are the changes in worldview that were experienced when we discovered the Earth is round and not flat or when we discovered the planets in our solar system rotate around the Sun and not the Earth. So a paradigm shift is really just a reorientation of reality based on new information.

At some time during our history, humanity experienced a shift in perception about its place in nature which resulted in the belief that humanity is outside and above the laws of nature, embarking on a path of destructive stewardship of the Earth.(1) Daniel Quinn’s “Ishamael”, although fiction, makes a powerful case for this scenario, along the way debunking our deepest belief systems about “the way things are” that keep us firmly on the path of destructive stewardship, separated from our animal natures, rigid in the belief that we are not nature, that nature is instead a force outside of us that needs to be controlled and mastered by the intellect.

But where would this change in perception come from? At the NHC, we studied the work of Samuel Hahnemann, the father of homeopathy. Hahnemann’s Organon describes a theory of miasms (underlying patterns of energy in an organism) and disease. Judyann McNamara (NHC, MICH-see links)describes a progression of dis-ease following three evolutionary steps of increasing discomfort in an organism separated from nature. From her notes: “When we were nomadic, we were not deficient (scarcity mentality did not exist). We were nourished on all levels (abundance consciousness). When humans became attached to the land and ownership came into being, survival through owenership became the focus. When one is “fixed”, it fosters worry in the organism.” Worry is the basis of the first miasm or psoric miasm. “Psora is the dis-ease of stillness, lack of movement, restriction, worry, feeling unable to do or move, feeling stuck.”(2) “As hunters and foragers we all had to do everything. Everyone had many trades and abilities. As settlers we slowly became specialized in a trade or ability to the extent there was civilization.” According to the theory of miasms, anxiety about scarcity and ownership perverted the natural flow of life force energy. Leutic miasm is the third stage of miasmic dis-ease and describes a state of over-functioning where the energy of the organism suicidally turns against itself; a state of auto immune dis-ease such as cancer or destruction of Gaia results. (3)

For this and many other reasons we’re experiencing an urgent need/desire to understand what happens to humans when they separate themselves from their animal natures. I could say the mental health of humanity is at stake or the health of Gaia is at stake, and while global warming, earth changes, intentional depletion of resources, waste, poverty consciousness and widespread psychosis are real problems that seem dramatically true and require real solutions, it's simply ecstatic being that's at stake. The Dalai Lama giggles and invites us to do this work...or not. This is Earth school, our collective Soul is Gaia, and we agreed to experience our soul/life force in human body as this garden of eden. We are heaven if we could only relax.

Wilhem Reich described the path life force energy is forced to take when a human is separated from its animal nature; the individual cannot freely express inherent life force energy because in its path for expression it meets body armoring experienced emotionally as frustration. Life force energy is thus limited in its expression to destructive rage. The armor is kept in place in muscular contraction by the mind and its belief systems, emotional conditioning and rigid morality. I’ve been cultivating an understanding recently that every action is an expression of love filtered through armoring, frustration and destructive rage. Of course the level of destruction expressed depends on the level of armorning. If this is true, then the real healing work becomes softening the armor. If we desire life and to re-balance the collective Soul of Gaia, it’s necessary to open ourselves to feel the desire for life which allows us to feel the armor. We must feel the armor and bring the associated belief systems to consciousness in order to release the armor. It’s not always easy work; the armor most always carries painful emotional charge in the contraction, but the payoff is freedom of expression, alignment with our true selves and homeostasis of Gaia.

In terms of astrology, the discovery of Pluto in the 1930's coincides with an understanding of the transformative power in the re-emergence of the Divine Feminine in the culture. Astrologer and Jungian analyst Liz Greene has written that the presence of an angry feminine deity has been prominent in the dreams of her clients for the past 40 years. Pluto has been associated with nuclear bombs and the destructive wars of the last century. I believe this energy is Kali energy, the mother of us all who in her infinite compassion cuts the head of illusion to allow us back to heart and back to the garden again. Pluto is fiery, Kali-like transformation energy; everything She touches changes, is reduced to its raw elements to be reassambled anew-from lead to gold. Pluto's power is the ability to transform the lead of Saturn's ego-armor to the gold of the integrated personality. Like the Tower card in Tarot, cherished belief systems must crumble to the ground so we can see the truth. And this is the gift of Pluto-freedom from illusion. Many of us are feeling the need for re-integration of the Divine Feminine in our daily lives to support our personal transformations with compassionate mother love as well as to rebalance the relative excess of yang energy we've raised over the past few millenia.

Working with the moon cycles has been one way for me to invite the feminine into my daily life; the effects have been a radical reorientation of my life and worldview. I want to support the healing of our true natures in all beings who desire free expression of life force energy and ecstasy. I welcome my fellow seekers here for sharing of ideas, experiences and most importantly, to be reminded that you are not alone in the challenges and joy that you meet with a strong commitment to healing. Every day, every moon cycle, every year the Universe is supporting us to heal our ego separateness, soften the contractions in our bodies, open to the ecstasy that already exists. Please come as often as you like; I will post the monthly moon cycle information here as well as other astrology musings as well as other relevant musings on health and healing. Peace, love, blessings, Helen

(1) Perhaps this wasn't an error at all, but a necessary stage in development; like children exploring boundaries of reality, asking questions like what happens if I put my hand over this flame? Astrology certainly backs up the idea of necessary, integral steps in the evolution of consciousness (see also Ken Wilber on spiral dyamics on this site). Five thousand years would take us through the Astrological Ages of Taurus, Aries, Pisces and now Aquarius with a corresponding emphasis during each age on comfort, ego-centrism, self sacrifice and cooperation (this is not nearly a complete description).
(2) Interestingly, from a Chinese Medicine perspective, blood stasis, or lack of movement of the blood, is the root of most fatal diseases during the last century. As the death force in our culture escalates, auto-immune disease is catching up as the most fatal pathology.
(3) The thymus is the gland responsible for maintaining a healthy immune response. It is the gland identified with the heart chakra. Healing the imbalances that lead to auto immune disease require healing the heart chakra.
(4) There are links on this site to Ishmael, Wilhelm Reich's theory on children and body armoring, NHC and MICH.

I came upon a child of god
He was walking along the road
And I asked him, where are you going
And this he told me
Im going on down to yasgurs farm
Im going to join in a rock n roll band
Im going to camp out on the land
Im going to try an get my soul free
We are stardust
We are golden
And weve got to get ourselves
Back to the garden

Then can I walk beside you
I have come here to lose the smog
And I feel to be a cog in something turning
Well maybe it is just the time of year
Or maybe its the time of man
I dont know who l am
But you know life is for learning
We are stardust
We are golden
And weve got to get ourselves
Back to the garden

By the time we got to woodstock
We were half a million strong
And everywhere there was song and celebration
And I dreamed I saw the bombers
Riding shotgun in the sky
And they were turning into butterflies
Above our nation
We are stardust
Billion year old carbon
We are golden
Caught in the devils bargain
And weve got to get ourselves
Back to the garden
